Nombre - Crafting a Thoughtful Cafe Brand

Nombre is a specialty café located in Bangalore. Designed with a distinct architectural and aesthetic sensibility, it’s the kind of space that speaks quietly but leaves a lasting impression. The brand identity needed to feel just as considered. We were brought in at an early stage to help define the visual world around the café. The founder had a broad vision in mind and we collaborated with her to refine the name, logo, and build out a cohesive identity system that feels rooted in the space.

Approach
Our process began with name explorations that reflected the tonal quality of the café. From the final name to the logo, every step involved distillation, asking what could be removed to arrive at something clear and strong. The logotype builds on the client’s early reference points, reshaped and refined to hold its own across digital and physical touchpoints. The secondary symbol, designed as a minimal monogram, functions like a quiet stamp. It appears on cups, bags and in-store menus as an understated but recognisable presence. The overall identity feels confident without being loud. It blends into the architecture while offering visual anchors that elevate the experience.

Design Details
• The wordmark is intentionally soft, almost handwritten in feel, reflecting the warmth of the space
• The symbol uses abstract geometry that nods to the ritual of coffee and the meditative quality of the space
• Typography and layout are intentionally sparse, leaving room for the café’s materiality and lighting to lead the narrative
• Visual rhythm across printed touchpoints mirrors the slow, intentional pace the café invites

Outcome
The brand identity creates visual coherence across the café’s in-store experience. It’s present, but never dominant. Whether on a paper cup or engraved into signage, the design system supports the atmosphere without distracting from it.Nombre is a study in restraint and visual rhythm. The identity holds space without overwhelming it, designed to feel as intentional as the architecture itself.
